Nashvillians and Guests
Friday 27th January 2006The Three Tuns, Sheriffs  Highway, Gateshead.
Well tonight folks, we ventured in unknown territory, put on our stetsons, stirrups, packed our six shooters and rode our trusty steed (Ok, so we took the car!) on to the Sheriffs Highway for a night of ‘country’ at the Ye Grand Ole Hostelry ‘The Three Tuns’for the what we can describe as a virgin cowboy debut of country band Nashvillians.

Paulthe landlord was a tad nervous as we spoke with him beforehand, as he told us this was a debut gig for the band, a country night which is something completely different to what he normally puts on and he wasn’t sure if this would be a packed saloon or a bar room brawl at sun down.

The night started with a packed audience, so far so good we thought, can this continue, and would this audience be the same at the end of the night. Paul G an acoustic warm up singer started to woo the crowd, he ranges from rock to country in his own style, although his vocals are not one of the strongest we have seen on the circuit, but it certainly gave the night a perfect start for the ho-down to begin.

Nashvillians eventually took to the stage and we didn’t think the stage would be big enough as seven hillbilly cowboys got up and strode their stuff to entertain for the first time. They opened with ‘Devil Right Hand’ which was a catchy song, a tad nervous, which all bands are, even the major league guys would be. Other tracks ranged from ‘Old Hippie’,‘Wham Bam Boom’, ‘Live Forever’, ‘All The Way Forever’, ‘Harley Davidson’‘Third Rate Romance’, ‘4x4’,‘Broken Speed’, ‘Glory Of The Love’, ‘Here Come That Rainbow’, ‘Road Goes On Forever’, ‘Lake Maria' and finally ‘Bear Creek’

Nashvillians consists of Mick(Drums/Bongos) an earlier wedding gig and a quick dash, he got there in the nick of time, showed his passion and gave a great beat.Tim (Bass) a shy but effect performance gave a good solid backline. Pete (Harmonica) well this is the first time we seen someone play this live however, we were instantly drawn into his rhythm, and he gave what we can describe as a memorable performance. John (Guitar/Accordion/vocals) a man of many talents, his dedication and musical skills shone through on tonight’s show. Tom (fiddle) he’s certainly blended in a good country feel.
Rob (Guitar/Vocals) a gentle giant of guitar playing and with vocal cords which can certainly pack a punch, and as a songwriter he has brilliant ability in his is own composition ‘Jarrow Cowboy’ this was a huge hit in which they were joined on stage by Big Rayfrom the Hipthrusters for two songs ‘Long about train’ and ‘Jarrow Cowboy’ and as most of the crowd who know Ray he was ‘outstanding’ Last the Sheriff himself

Ken (Guitar and Vocals) a gritty voice and a mean guitar player, you would have thought they had played the circuit for many years and yet this was their debut gig.

For all you country buffs this is a band to go and see, a must for something different. On tonight’s performance. We give them 9 out of 10 and a well deserved score, however, lets not forget it was a virgin gig and with a few minor tweaks here and there, hopefully long may it continue to go from strength to strength and the way the lads gelled together and kept a active packed audience for the whole night in our opinion are certainly a prospect to watch for the future giving the right gigs.

No line dancing here tonight, but watch out, it wont be long before someone gets up to start it off. The venue was packed and stayed packed to the end of the evening, so congratulations to the band for a perfect nights performance richly deserved. And lastly a big thank you to Paul (The Tuns) you gambled to give us something different, and boy it worked!,hats off to you mate!

On a personal notes Val dusted down her rock chick image for tonight and she loved every minute of the night. Derek a country music fan said he had a ‘ye-ha’ night!

Cowboys and cowgirls we just like to tell you this night was a fantastic debut of country feet stomping, reel spinning fun in a packed saloon.
