The Last Men on Earth
The Three Tuns, Sheriffs Highway, Gateshead Saturday 4th February 2006
After we had taken a night off from reviewing on Friday evening and enjoying a full show, it was time to do some work and take in a band tonight we’ve heard such a lot about over the years on the circuit from our friends, so as ever we decided to go back once again to one of the best live music venues The Three Tuns and to take in ‘The Last Men On Earth.

As we are supporting and reviewing all types of music for this website and checking out new venues in the area it’s a nice change to see a band in which we would regard has a mixture of Punk, Ska and Reggie, but mostly punk oriented, mixing classic 70’s tracks with some of their own songs and as we are not big punk followers this could have been a review in which we may have not have put pen to paper however, when these guys took to the stage to a packed audience and opened up with ‘No More Heroes’ and got the crowd dancing from the start we had to tell you more about these guys.

The Last Men On Earth is a four-piece band consisting of Martin(drummer) an energetic and a true sticks man who through his manic powerful drumming so much so he had to change one of the skins, a temporary delay but a much needed breather before getting back to the business of entertaining with his blinding stick movements. Wayne (bassist) lead vocalist tonight on several tracks with an infusion of energy I haven’t seen in a such a long time from a bass player together with John andChris (guitarists/vocals) played with energy, dedication, anarchistic enthusiasm which is a pleasure to watch and having been together over a number of years shone through tonight’s performance as a professional outfit, in fact we wondered just how long these guys could continue the passion, throwing themselves around the stage and interacting with their followers and locals alike. Each one of them took turns in vocals from tracks like ‘Last Men On Earth’, ‘England’, ‘Blister’, ‘Shim Sham’ ‘500 Miles’, ‘Pretty Vacant’ and ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’, which had the audience singing above themselves.

Although as we mentioned we are not punk followers but we were very impressed with ‘The Last Men On Earth’ as a band of pure talent and energy they are worth watching not only for their vocal talent and interaction with the audience, but also for their energetic work out on stage. If you love Punk, Ska and Reggie this is a must see band.
